Good Enough.

Embrace Who You Are. Unleash Your Brilliance.

The Good Enough book is intended to start a conversation and to provide a pathway forward with clear strategies and practices, to bust through some of the myths we have about who we are and what is possible for our lives. Through the women’s stories, we show you it is possible to create compelling and impactful shifts in your life, career and “embrace who you are and unleash your brilliance”.

I absolutely loved reading this book by Anne Day and Amy Vodarek. The authors interviewed over 350 women using a number of platforms, and discovered some common themes that were present, such as not feeling good enough, imposter syndrome, shame and lack of confidence to name a few. The stories the authors shared as well as those of many women confirm that there remains much to do to get women to embrace their gifts and leadership. It was an easy read, well written and contained a ton of insights. Women in community can find support and strength to reach their goals and create a better world. We've got this. Thank you for this book ladies!

Sneak Peek inside Kindle edition of Good Enough.

Embrace Who You Are.

The Good Enough book was a 3 1/2 year passion project. Initially, we intended to talk with 20-30 women to explore what gets in the way of feeling fulfilled, confident, and taking a risk to express their fullest potential. We very quickly discovered we’d hit a nerve, and this conversation had energy.

Interviews led to more interviews, and our desire to learn and uncover the key challenges and importantly, how to overcome them, become all-consuming. The scope of the book expanded to include hearing from over 350 women, through more than 150 interviews and focus groups, and the results of an extensive survey.

We wanted women to feel free to talk openly with us, and we have created aliases for each of them. We are deeply grateful for each woman who shared her heart and story with us. Women were generous with their time, and in entrusting us to listen and to capture the meaning of their story.

It was an incredible honour and privilege.

What did we find out?

Many successful and accomplished women get entangled in feeling not good enough, and if you’ve ever felt this way, let me reassure you, you are not alone. Self-doubt, self-judging and the habit of comparing ourselves to others contributes to feeling less than what we desire to be.

Whether it’s feeling not bright enough, qualified, credentialed or prepared enough, attractive enough or confident enough, the undercurrent is “I’m not good enough”. The experience of feeling not good enough is, and when women conquered feelings of inadequacy, their next battle was the imposter experience, questioning their competency, prompting them to back down with a message of “who do you think you are to do that?”

Companion Workbook

Since publishing the book, we heard from women in book clubs and associations who wanted a workbook. Today, we are happy to announce that we also have a companion Good Enough workbook, offering reflective questions, strategies and new practices.

More Reviews

I loved this book. The information gathered and shared in "Good Enough" will assist a large variety of women at various ages and stages in their careers and lives. Anne and Amy show their vulnerability in the personal stories they weave into the fabric of learning how to show your brilliance and Be Good Enough. I often find that in networking groups, when you just share your struggles, all kinds of solutions and ideas are born. Now help is here all in one book. A bonus for me in purchasing this book was knowing that a portion of the proceeds from this endeavour will be going to the young girl's program at the Canadian Women's Foundation.

Good Enough is my motto and my go to book. I refer this book to members of the Women in Biz Network community so that they find strength from knowing they have powerful voices when they focus on believing in themselves and the wisdom knowing they too are good enough (and not alone). This book has wisdom from all my literary mentors - it takes 10 years of my reading wisdom and wraps into one beautiful lesson through this book. I only wish it was available when I first became a mother - I would have saved so much time! Reading all the interviews also helped me to know I am not alone in my crazy imperfect thoughts! If you are a mother, professional woman or business owner you must read this book!

Thank you to Anne, Amy and the hundreds of women whose voices ring out so clear and so true in this deeply insightful page-turner. How freeing to acknowledge and expose the fear of not being Good Enough! How will our lives - and the lives of our daughters - change as we learn to get “that” voice out of our heads and out of our way? I've given this book to my daughters and have recommended it to friends and business colleagues.

Day and Vodarek present a series of real stories from motivated and successful women. Having connected with over 350 women, Day and Vodarek share their stories of courage, set-back and resilience, and show how powerful women can be and the importance of believing in yourself. The authors share heart-felt, real stories from real women and use them to inspire other women and lift them from their self-doubt. It’s a self-help book filled with numerous real stories that illustrate classic examples of women doubting their worth, success and potential. The stories all show common themes of how women are afraid of failure, and how women are constantly judging themselves – but why? The book is broken into themes, which include: “Trying to Please Everyone”, “Taming Your Inner Critic”, and “Life Happens – dealing with losses”. In these chapters are real testimonials of how women constantly try and prove themselves. Through these testimonials, Day and Vodarek illustrate that you are not alone if you’ve ever had that feeling of self-doubt or feeling of inadequacy.

Rich in resources and references to other books, Good Enough gives you the opportunity and information to explore other avenues for personal development. Near the end of the book, Day and Vodarek lean into values. “Too often, we are quick to blame ourselves if a job or relationship isn’t working out, but perhaps it’s not us. Perhaps it is more that our values are not in alignment with the workplace or the person. When we step back and look from the outside in, it can be easier to see what needs to happen, and perhaps no one is to blame, it is just not a good fit.” They highlight how women may constantly be searching for an answer, or trying to figure out what they did wrong at work, at home, or in life, but the answer isn’t always what we did wrong; sometimes it’s not the individual, it is just not a good match. This thought leads into conclusion that it’s ok if everything is not the perfect fit, it’s ok to say no, and it’s important to know your balance.

The Bottom-line: The book covers a lot of stories that show how women constantly feel judged and constantly feel like they are not living up to expectations – like they are not good enough. This theme runs through every story throughout the entire book. Day and Vodarek make note of every story and illustrate why each woman didn’t feel ‘good enough’ and then turn around to show how they were good enough – and – how in turn, you can turn your self-doubt around as well. The bottom-line: you are good enough. Recommendation: Although this book focuses on women and self-confidence, it is a book that anyone can pick up if you are in need of some reassurance; you are not alone. I recommend giving this a read and using the real life stories as tools to position yourself in the positive direction you’d like to go!
